In order to understand how your personal information can or may be used by MVB Bank, the Bank is providing the following questions and answers.
Why does MVB send me a new privacy notice every year?
As your trusted partner, MVB Bank believes in safeguarding client information. Annual notification is required under the U.S. federal Privacy Law, also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. We are required to let you know the different situations in which we share your information. We will provide you our updated privacy notice each year, as long as you maintain a relationship with us.
How does MVB Bank use my personal information?
MVB Bank uses client information for everyday business purposes. We process your transactions, maintain your account(s), respond to court orders and legal investigations or report to credit bureaus. We also use your information for MVB marketing purposes, and we share client information to our affiliates – see next question for more details.
Does MVB Bank share my information with business partners and affiliates?
Yes. Client information is shared with MVB business partners and affiliates for the purpose of processing or servicing transactions, to protect against fraud or to comply with applicable laws.
Additionally, MVB Bank shares information in these instances:
- Joint marketing with other financial companies – these include financial product or service marketing companies
- Our affiliates’ everyday business purposes – information about your transactions and experiences
- Our affiliates’ everyday business purposes – information about your creditworthiness
- Our affiliates to market to you
What are affiliates?
Affiliates are companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial or nonfinancial companies. MVB affiliates include MVB Insurance, LLC; Potomac Mortgage Group; Intercoastal Mortgage (dba MVB Mortgage in West Virginia only); Chartwell Compliance; Paladin Fraud, LLC; MVB Technology, LLC; and the MVB Community Development Corporation.
Can I limit having MVB Bank share my information?
Yes, in two instances you can limit sharing. First, you can limit sharing with our affiliates’ everyday business purposes (information about creditworthiness). Second, you also can limit sharing for our affiliates to market to you.
How do I limit sharing my information in the two instances mentioned?
Visit our online MVB Opt Out Preferences center at https://mvbbanking.com/opt-out-preferences/. Answer the questions on the online form to submit a request.
If I have a joint account, how does my election to limit sharing affect other named owners on my account?
Your election will apply to you alone unless you tell us otherwise So, we encourage all named parties to submit a request.
I opted out before – do I have to do anything to continue to limit the sharing of my information?
Once you direct us to limit the information that we share with our affiliates, you do not have to send in the form again. The opt-out will remain in effect until you tell us you want to allow us to
share information about your creditworthiness with our affiliates or to allow our affiliates to market to you.
Does MVB Bank sell client information to non-affiliate companies for solicitation?
No. MVB Bank does not share information about you with nonaffiliates and does not sell client information.
Does the privacy notice cover all my MVB Bank accounts?
MVB issues different privacy notices for different product types. Thus, you should review the privacy notice given at account opening to determine which privacy notice controls your MVB Bank account.
Non-personal and commercial accounts are not covered by the notice; however, we treat all client information with high security and confidentiality.
Do you ever make changes to your privacy notice?
We review our privacy notice at least annually to ensure it continues to align with our practices and provides clear and current information on how we use information collected from or about you. The updated notice reflects the results of our recent review. Since 2019, we have added information on affiliates that have joined the MVB family. When we do make changes or updates, we will also update the effective date of the notice, which is indicated at the top of the notice.
How do I submit a California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Request?

How does the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) affect my rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?
The CCPA exempts the data that is covered by the GLBA; specifically, “personal information collected, processed, sold, or disclosed pursuant to the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and implementing regulations . . . .” Therefore, any data covered by the GBLA will not be controlled by your requests submitted to MVB and our responses may be more limited than other non-financial institutions.
